These are all affected by the health of the cells in our bodies.
If our cells have inadequate essential nutrients, they work less efficiently and our health can be damaged. Our health is affected by our eating habits, by inadequate sleep, by high levels of stress and by the toxins and anti-nutrients to which we are exposed through our air, water and food.
A nutritional therapy programme at the Olive Tree Clinic can help you deal with these issues.
Nutritional therapy provides expert advice to identify the changes you need to make, and ongoing personal support to help you achieve them.
At The Olive Tree Clinic we use a functional medicine approach. This looks for biochemical imbalances in the body that may contribute to health issues.
We collect information in three major ways:
Intake questionnaires: before you come, we ask you to complete a detailed health questionnaire and four day food diary.
Initial consultation: when we meet, we discuss your major goals and health concerns, and run some basic physical checks- weight, blood pressure, etc. As a functional medicine practice, it is normal to recommend tests to investigate any specific imbalances suggested by the information gathered. Pateints should expect to run tests in a functional medicine practice, but there are some cases where we can make progress without.
Testing: once the recommended tests have been run, we meet again to discuss results. We then design a personalised programme to support health and vitality through individually selected supplements, eating/food changes and lifestyle suggestions. You are given a report summarising our recommendations.

Margo Goldspink experienced chronic illness for many years. She understands the patient's perspective, and the need for practical advice and support.
Nutritional therapy helped her to recover after 8 years of chronic fatigue/ME. Within a year her strength had recovered enough for her to start on a degree in nutritional medicine, instead of going back to her previous role as managing director of a London university business.
At the Olive Tree Clinic, we aim to provide a very high standard of advice, consistent with the standards of the professional organisations of which Margo is a member.
Continuing education is key for keeping up with the latest advances in research on how our cells interact with nutrients and toxins, and Margo attends many specialist courses every year.
One area of special interest is mood and mental health. She has studied with Dr Bill Walsh of the Walsh Reasearch institute, author of "Nutrient Power" - an explanation of how biochemical factors can affect mental health. Margo was the first UK-based practitioner to become a certified Walsh Institute Mental Health practitioner.
The Olive Tree Clinic offers specialist testing for key biochemical parameters relevant to mental health, as well as for other health issues.
Margo has attended many training courses including:
The way in which our brains work varies from one person to another- this is what makes each of us unique. One person may like Bach, while another prefers heavy metal. We are all different. Variations in tastes, habits, outlooks etc are part of what makes us all individual. However some variations of brain function go beyond what we regard as normal : some children develop ADHD, others do not. Some, but not all of us, are abnormally anxious, or have mood disorders and depression.
Biochemically we are all different too. Functional nutritional medicine looks for imbalances in key nutrients which are important for health, including mental health. Specialist tests are available to identify the levels of these biochemical markers. Nutrient therapy aims to normalise elements which are out of line. Margo can run tests to look for imbalances in minerals, vitamins, methylation, kryptopyroles, whole blood histamine and many other factors that may affect our wellbeing.
Margo Goldspink has been trained by Dr Bill Walsh of the Walsh Research Institute. Dr Walsh, author of "Nutrient Power", has worked with over 30,000 patients with mental health concerns. "Nutrient Power brings a unique new perspective to mental... behavioural ... disorders, including the crucial role of epigenetics." (John Skelton, former assistant director, Australian Army Psychology Corps).
